The ensemble Ioculatores joins forces with the pure voices of girls choir Schola Cantorum Leipzig to introduce the listener to the rich world of medieval Christmas music. Ranging from instrumental pieces featuring organ, harp, lute, fiddle and shawm to strictly vocal songs, this recording produced at the Romanesque basilica in Wechselburg gives an impression of the ideas people have always had of heavenly jubilation. The imaginatively designed CD is accompanied by an informative booklet.
L’ensemble Ioculatores, associé à la pureté des voix féminines de la Schola Cantorum de Leipzig, guide l’auditeur à travers la richesse de la musique de Noël médiévale. Les pièces instrumentales pour orgue, harpe, luth, vièle et chalemie, de même que les chants pour voix seule, donnent une idée de la représentation que l’on s’est fait, de tout temps, de la béatitude céleste. L’enregistrement a été effectué dans la basilique romane de Wechselburg. Le CD, à la conception graphique inventive, s’accompagne d’un livret exhaustif.
