The trio formed in 1981 in Berlin has compiled on this CD a programme of Eastern Judaism, containing a selection of largely unknown songs which will set new accents in the list of Yiddish titles familiar to us in these regions. Settings of poems by Cernovcy-born Itzik Manger are coupled here with a song written by Hirsch Oscherowitch after seven years of imprisonment in the Soviet Gulag, old Hassidic tunes with verses in which exiles captured the wide horizons and barrenness of Siberia. Listeners who are prepared to lend an attentive ear will hear the heart-beat of a people and the breath of a millenium. Once you succumb to the sadness immanent in even the most cheerful of these songs, you will never be quite the same person again.
Le trio né en 1981 à Berlin, présente avec ce disque compact un programme relatant l’histoire des Juifs de l’Est, un programme qui comporte toute une sélection de chants en grande partie inconnus mais appropriés pour apporter de nouveaux accents dans le catalogue des titres yidish couramment connus. A côté de poèmes d’Itzig Manger né à Czernowitz et mis en musique, on y trouve, traité avec la même parité, un chant composé par Hirsch Oscherowitsch après sept ans de détention dans le système concentrationnaire soviétique Goulag, de vieilles mélodies rappelant les Chassidim, des vers oó des bannis ont saisi l’immensité et la solitude du désert de Sibérie. Celui qui est prêt à écouter attentivement, entendra ici le battement du coeur d’un peuple et le souZe d’un siècle. Celui qui succombe à la tristesse qui s’élève même du plus joyeux des chants ici présentés, ne pourra plus jamais être le même homme qu’auparavant.

Jalda Rebling born: in 1951 in Amsterdam ¶ 1969–72 student at the Staatliche Schauspielschule (National Drama School), Berlin ¶ 1972–78 engagements at theatres in Berlin, Altenburg, Chemnitz and Dresden ¶ since 1978 freelance actress in Berlin ¶ 1979–88 performed Yiddish songs together with her parents Lin Jaldati and Eberhard Rebling, making guest appearances in many European countries as well as in Israel and the USA (until her mother’s death in 1988)
Jalda Rebling née en 1951 à Amsterdam ¶ 1969–72 études à la Staatliche Schauspielschule de Berlin (Ecole des Arts Dramatiques) ¶ 1972–78 Engagements à Berlin, Altenbourg, Chemnitz et Dresde ¶ depuis 1978 actrice indépendante à Berlin ¶ 1979–88 Les parents, Lin Jaldati et Eberhard Rebling, donnent, avec leurs filles, des concerts de chansons en yiddish dans de nombreux pays européens, l’Israël et aux Etats Unis, et ce, jusqu’à la mort de la mère en 1988.
