MORVORAN – Celtic Tunes and Baroque Spirit
With Morvoran, the ensemble La Moresca brings together traditional melodies from Cornwall, Ireland, and Scotland with the sound world of Baroque chamber music. Historical instruments such as violin, theorbo, Baroque guitar, and Celtic harp meet the improvisational spirit of the folk tradition, offering fresh perspectives on traditional tunes, dances, and songs.
Inspired by concert tours through Cornwall, the programme naturally combines Celtic musical traditions with historically informed performance practice. The album takes its name from Morvoran, the Cornish legend of the Mermaid of Zennor.
Between captivating reels and jigs, lyrical melodies, and moments of improvisational freedom, a vibrant and elegant fusion of Celtic tradition and Baroque musical culture emerges.
