Werner Bühler (1904–1968)
You are the day, and I the dream
(Du bist der Tag und ich der Traum)
Songs for voice and piano
World-premiere recording of Werner Bühler’s songs for voice and piano
Tina Scherer - Soprano
Martha Jordan - Mezzo-soprano
Anne-Kathrein Jordan - Piano
Known only to a few music connoisseurs, Werner Bühler’s settings of various poets, such as Hermann Hesse and Georg Trakl, were recently discovered by his daughter, the concert pianist Annemarie Spühler, and have been released on the Talanton label. The fragile compositions are sensitively interpreted by the young sopranos Tina Scherer and Martha Jordan, accompanied on the piano by Anne-Kathrein Jordan. Swiss composer Werner Bühler, born in 1904, had lessons in composition with Albert Moeschinger and attended master classes with Felix Weingartner. Besides symphonies, an opera, and chamber music works, he composed numerous settings of poems for voice and piano, which were publically performed at the legendary Utzenstorf House Concerts.
