Rood-Screen Passion
Passion Oratorio by Reinhard Ohse (*1930)
Daniel Blumenschein, Bariton
Naumburger Kammerchor
Mitteldeutsches Kammerorchester
Jan-Martin Drafehn (Leitung)
The west choir of Naumburg Cathedral with its extraordinary sculptural ensemble and the famous Passion reliefs by the anonymous Master of Naumburg is unique. In 1987/88 the “pictorial bible” of stone inspired contemporary composer Reinhard Ohse to his dramatic Passion composition. The expressive work develops its own very personal and direct appeal, also through the unusual idea of having the chorus take the role of the Evangelist. The Naumburger Kammerchor and the Mitteldeutsches Kammerorchester, under the direction of Jan-Martin Drafehn, know how to touchingly capture the oratorio’s powerful effect.
