The Ladegast organ in Alt-Leisnig Church, Polditz
Completed in 1868 by Friedrich Ladegast, one of the leading organ-builders in the latter half of the 19th century, the organ features 3 manuals and 33 registers, and is the largest original Ladegast organ to be preserved in Saxony. The only alteration is that the tin front pipes were melted down for the armaments industry during World War I, to be replaced by zinc pipes in 1928. Although it was decided at this time to expand the organ and equip it with a pneumatic action, this plan was thwarted by a lack of funds – and so this masterpiece of Romantic organ-building was left in more or less its original state. In 1996/97 it was restored by Christian Scheffler, a firm of organ-builders from Sieversdorf.
