Cryptones from the deep
in the subterranean ruins of a disused reservoir at the watertower in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg
This CD was recorded in May 1994 in the subterranean ruins of a disused reservoir at the watertower in Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg.
The unique acoustics with their unusual tonal properties, natural echo and directional effects inspired improvisations with acoustic instruments and voices. The six classical and jazz musicians came together especially for this production. Their use of a special omni-directional-surface stereomicrophone made is possible to reproduce the sound of an otherwise closed space in audiophilic quality (especially when using headphones). The recordings were made without the use of electronic effect equipment and other soundalienating devices.
