Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 – 1750)
Kunst der Fuge
Peter Kofler - Cembalo & Orgel
Originalcembalo von August Gräbner, Dresden 1782
Concealed behind Bach’s Art of Fugue BWV 1080 is an unbelievably complex musical structure, a cycle of fugues and canons that are based on a common theme. In the abundance of transformational techniques – for example, retrograde inversion, rhythmic augmentation and diminution of the theme, or the combination with additional themes – Bach takes stock of his life’s work.
With this craftsmanship as a point of departure, Peter Kofler lends sensual vitality to the mystically intertwined musical fabric, and interprets Bach’s music as a series of absorbing character pieces. Played on a two-manual original harpsichord by Karl August Gräbner (Dresden 1782) and an organo di legno.
