Bon Voyage
Music by Giovanni Paolo Foscarini ( (* before 1600 in Italy; † after 1649)
The Foscarini Experience
Frank Pschichholz – Chitarra Spagnuola
Nora Thiele – Percussion
Daniel Zorzano – Violone
As a composer and also as a self-aggrandizing personality, Giovanni Paolo Foscarini left his mark on the guitar world. Both Giovanni Battista Granata as well as Gaspar Sanz mentioned his influence in their guitar books.
The Foscarini Experience, founded by guitarist Frank Pschichholz, has long been fascinated by Foscarini’s enigmatic writings, which like his life are difficult to decipher and follow. Frank Pschichholz experimented with various instrumentations and ultimately found his way to the tried and true formation of guitar, bass, and percussion, and indeed in such a rousing manner that one cannot imagine Foscarini’s music played in any other fashion. Frank Pschichholz becomes Il Furioso (Foscarini’s self-aggrandizing figure), and with his virtuoso and accentuated playing, it is easy to imagine him journeying from France to Italy, accompanied by the versatile bass player Daniel Zorzano and Nora Thiel’s percussive arts.
