“Weihnacht” is the Leipzig a cappella quintet’s most personal Christmas album. The compilation of works is like a small Christmas story: Advent pieces (Veni, Maria) are followed by a first “quiet high point” of joy and sorrow (Ros, Lully Lulla), then the personal confrontation (Ich steht’ and Schlaf wohl), the appearance of the Shepherds (Villancios and La Negrina), and finally, with Weihnacht and Stille Nacht, the second “quiet high point” is heard. And naturally this album by former members of the St. Thomas Choir, with four cantoral manuscripts, breathes the tradition of the Leipzig boys’ choir.
